Hello

Was Alexander Hamilton one of the First Political Elites?

Did you know...

...that Alexander Hamilton was one of the first "political elites"? He believed in a strong, national government that would have significantly reduced the power of the states and was even in favor of a "president for life".

...that Alexander Hamilton was born out of wedlock? He was born a British subject in the West Indies on January 11, 1755. His father was James Hamilton, and his mother was Rachael Fawcette Levine

...Alexander Hamilton, along with James Madison and John Jay, was one of the authors of the Federalist Papers (also known as "The Federalist")

...that under President George Washington, Alexander Hamilton was appointed the first "Secretary of the Treasury" in 1789

...that Aaron Burr was Vice President for Thomas Jefferson at the time of the famous Hamilton - Burr duel? Burr was charged with murder following the duel, but returned to his post as Vice President until his term was finished, and never stood trial for murder. He was later charged with treason in 1806, but was later acquitted. He was suspected of attempting to divide the Southwest from the Union and building his own empire, and Jefferson had him arrested.

Quote of the week...

"A national debt, if it is not excessive, will be to us a national blessing." - Alexander Hamilton
