Early American recipes and historical recipes give us a glimpse into American history, and tell us a little more about the everyday lives of the people who lived during each era. American food history and our recipes are as diverse as the people who live here.

Many of the old recipes are hard to follow, and most have been adapted over the years to our modern appliances. There are some historical recipes that can still be found in their original wording, and these are the ones that I find the most interesting.
I am searching for historical recipes from American history, primarily early recipes, for posting here. If you have access to any, I would love to have you submit them for publishing on this website. You can use the form at the bottom of this page to submit your recipes, and they will appear as a new page on this website.
Sign up for our "Historical Recipes" e-mail to get "new" old recipes e-mailed to you! To start with, you'll receive a FREE download containing some original Civil War era recipes, and then a series of e-mails containing a Civil War era menu with recipes to follow. After that, you'll receive occasional e-mails containing other historical recipes and news.
