(Washington DC USA)
During the US Civil War, Washington DC was the most fortified city with 70 Forts & 90 Batteries surrounding and protecting the nation's capital from attacks by the Confederates.
Today, only one of those fortifications still exists, originally named Fort Whipple after General Amiel Weeks Whipple. The fort was built in 1863, it was later renamed Fort Myer in honor of the US Army's first Signal Officer, General Albert J. Myer.
