Prince William County & Manassas Civil War Sesquicentennial Event - 2010 - 2013

Prince William County and the City of Manassas will hold more than 100 events over the next five years to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War.

The events began in January of 2010. A large event is planned for July 21, 2011 at the Manassas National Battlefield. National speakers are scheduled, and there will be a re-creation of the 1911 Peace Jubilee on the Manassas courthouse steps. Also planned are living history and hands-on demonstrations, Civil War 3-D photography and more.

Other events will continue throughout 2013, including concerts and outdoor Civil War commemorations. Events over the next five years will include: drama, living history, exhibits, re-enactments, symposia, equestrian events, concerts, tours, demonstrations and educational initiatives.

There are 3 major entities that will sponsor events during the First Manassas 150th/Sesquicentennial. HMI (www.manassascivilwar.org ) will be hosting events for all 4 days (21-24 July 2011). There will be the main parade. We are putting up a site to resemble Manassas in 1861 and that was just tents, trenches, etc. We are looking for men to man it. You can access this by bus or train. We already have registration for reenactors at our web site. There will be something for everyone. I am looking for artillery and cavalry. Contact me at our web site for any questions.
